Kyle Busch and Samantha reveal they fell victim to a life insurance scheme, losing more than $8 million

NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch and his wife Samantha said Tuesday that they had lost over $8 million in a life insurance scheme.

The Busches released a video to social media saying they wanted others to avoid making the same mistake they did. RP Legal, the firm representing the Busches, said in a statement that the Busches’ legal complaint “accuses Pacific Life and its appointed agent of designing and promoting a series of complex Indexed Universal Life policies as ‘tax-free retirement plans’ that were misrepresented as safe, self-funding investment vehicles.”

The Busches allegedly paid more than $10.4 million in insurance premiums and lost over $8.58 million.

“I never thought something like this could happen to us,” Kyle Busch said in a statement. “These policies were sold to us as part of a retirement plan — something safe and secure that would grow tax-free and protect our family long after racing. We trusted the people who sold them, and the name Pacific Life. But the reality is far different. What was pitched as retirement income turned out to be a financial trap.”

IUL policies are different than a basic term life insurance policy. It’s a permanent life insurance policy that includes a cash value component along with a death benefit and an IUL’s growth can be tied to the performance of the overall stock market. However, the policies typically have significant fees attached and can be difficult to understand.

The Busches have two children. Their son Brexton is 10 years old and their daughter Lennix is 3.

Kyle Busch, 40, won the 2015 and 2019 Cup Series titles with Joe Gibbs Racing and currently drives for Richard Childress Racing. He’s one of just 17 NASCAR drivers to have multiple Cup Series titles and his 63 wins rank ninth all-time. However, Busch’s last victory came in 2023 as RCR has struggled over the past two seasons. Busch’s winless 2024 season snapped a streak of 19 consecutive seasons with a victory, a streak that is the longest in Cup Series history.
